Bipartisan talks to resume, panel to sit on Tuesday
According to sources, Bipartisan talks to resume this week, this comes after Azimio la umoja called off the protests once more and welcomed president Ruto’s Bipartisan talks.
The team will give a way forward on whether the negotiations would be purely parliamentary or expanded to include non-parliamentarians.
Omollo Otiende stated,”On the issue of formalisation, we have postponed the substance of that discussion to next week. We have explored some of the various issues around it,”
“Whether it will be a parliamentary process, Executive gazettement under Article 131 of the Constitution, we are going to explore all those in detail next week,” he added.
On Azimio la umoja part, they have demanded that the talks include non- parliamentarians, while Kenya kwanza maintained that the talks will remain in the house.
Otiende stated,”As a joint committee, we discussed the issue of framework agreement and tabling respective issues. We need to report that on those twin issues we have made tremendous progress and it is work in progress.”
The team however, settled on having Joint secretaries. Kenya Kwanza handpicked lawyer Muthomi Thiankolu to join Azimio’s Paul Mwangi as joint secretaries to the committee.
Last week, Azimio la umoja went back to the streets over composition of the panel with Azimio demanding removal of Eldas MP Adan Keynan (Jubilee) from Kenya Kwanza side while Kenya kwanza demanded removal of Pokot South MP David Pkosing.
Keynan however, agreed to Azimio’s demand and recused himself from the panel.
Kenya kwanza stated,”We have consulted with Mheshimiwa Keynan and the coalition’s top leadership and Aden Keynan has graciously agreed in the greater interest of the county to recuse himself from the bi-partisan committee.”
