Cabinet to forgo one month salary; This was part the solutions reached during the third cabinet meeting, chaired by the head of state.
They stated,”In solidarity with all Kenyans affected by the ongoing drought, the meeting resolved that all members will forgo one-month salary as their individual and collective contribution towards the ongoing State interventions that support all the Kenyans affected by the drought.”
A cabinet secretary (CS) in Kenya earns a monthly salary of Sh924,000, which means 22 cabinet secretaries will donate Sh20,328,000.
Additionally, the president earns Sh1.44 million per month while the Deputy President earns Sh1,22 million.
This comes a day after the deputy president rolled out the paybill number and account number to channel the drought response monies.
Apart from the Cabinet, the Kenya defence forces and national police service, also promised for go their day salary as sign of support.
Dp Gachagua stated,”Our men and women in the KDF have offered to forgo a one-day salary to contribute to the drought response kitty.”
