Trade cabinet secretary, commended the government for the effort it is making to ensure the cost of living is bearable.
Taking it to his social media accounts, Kuria stated,”Over the last 3 days Maize has dropped from Sh5,600 to Sh4,900 per bag a drop of 11.5%
“Sugar Down from Ksh 7,200 to Ksh 5,800 today per 50Kg bag a decrease of 18%.”
“Edible Oil from Ksh 340 to Ksh 280 per kg a decrease of 22%. We are heading somewhere,” he added.
A month ago, the head of state pleaded with Kenyan, to give him a grace period of one year, to bring the price of flour down.
He said,”I told you we must lower unga prices. I have already started that journey of lowering unga prices and reducing the cost of living, just give me one year.”
“We have already given our farmer’s manure, one million and a half sacks, and will still give them six million sacks of manure so that they can grow food and the food to reach the market with a good price,” he added.
However, Kuria’s sentiments on goods dropping in price has sparked reactions from the netizens.
Raphael posed,”Do you want to take credit on normal market forces as a government??? What did you do to bring down the cost of maize to come down as a government?”
“Great strides. Steps of giants. Work on restrictive tax regimes too. There exist tax and labour compensation regimes that makes it easy for use Egypt as a launch pad then creat regional offices across the region including kenya because its easy employing someone on Egyptian terms,” another one tweeted.
Another one added,”RUBBISH, that’s insult to farmers who purchase fertilizer at cost of 7000. Now our maize is on market the cartels want to take advantage of farmers.”
