DP Gachagua defends church amidst Shakahola massacre.
Speaking at the ordination and installation of Rt. Rev. Cleophas Oseso Tuka as the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru, the second in command highlighted that the clergy should desist from controversial teachings.
Notably, DP Gachagua defends church, by stating that it is a reflection of society and how such actions painted a picture of the society in general.
He stated,”Criminals will be dealt with as criminals in accordance with the law because it is not right to use the massacre in Kilifi to condemn the entire church of Christ and the clergy.”
He expressed that when all is said and done, the government will deal with every criminal who is on a mission to harm Kenyans but disguised as a preacher.
On political matters, the deputy president commended Azimio la umoja for calling off protests and welcoming bipartisan talks.
He stated.”We need to find a peaceful way of settling our differences. President William Ruto has been magnanimous when reached out by the opposition,”
“Violence is unacceptable we welcome the Azimio team to the table for discussions but in the meantime we are busy. If it is within the law, if it is something that can be done we will do it. If not, if they tell us they want us to open the servers we don’t know,” he added.
However, Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops Chairman Martin Kivuva has condemned the government’a approach to dealing with the Kilifi massacre issue.
Kivuva expressed,”Families lost their loved ones and some are unsure where their kin are. The government is not focused on them but is busy thinking of how to punish other churches,”
“It is time for the government to punish those involved instead of beating around the bush by targeting innocent clergy, Imams, and churches,” he added.
