EPRA announces plans for cheaper cooking gas after the president’s directive.
Energy and petroleum regulation authority, EPRA announces plans for cheaper gas cooking gas; They stated that there is an underway framework that will allows for more investors to invest in the Liquefied petroleum Gas industry.
This will lead to implementation of the Open Tender System (OTS) as proposed by the ruling government.
EPRA statement read,”We will facilitate the penetration of LPG in the Country by putting in place frameworks towards the adoption of an Open Tender System (OTS) which will allow competition in the LPG market leading to improvement of quality and price of the product.”
President Ruto yesterday stated that the country will move to affordable cooking gas instead of the normal biomass, this will be accessed even in learning institutions.
He promised to remove all taxes levied on cooking gas to make it affordable to everyone.
He stated,”We are going to remove all taxes that are currently being levied on cooking gas so that we can make sure that every household in the Republic of Kenya has access to affordable LPG and we eliminate the wood fuel.”
EPRA however, expressed that unscrupulous business owners would want to take advantage of the open market and introduce the sub- standard gas.
Because of this, EPRA will work with the ministry of interior to fish out any trader who wants to interfere with the quality needed.
The statement read,”We will collaborate with the Interior Ministry to get rid of unscrupulous traders in the country who endanger the public through illegal and unsafe practices in the handling of LPG.”
The specific timeline for this changes, was however, not stated.
