Having divergent ideas and opinions does not need to be chaotic- Ruto finally breaks silence.
Speaking on Friday during the launch of the Public Service Commission Principles Compliance report at KICC, Nairobi, President Ruto stated that it is normal to disagree to agree but it doesn’t need to end up in chaos.
He stated that Kenya as a democratic country, has granted everyone a right to air their opinions but demonstrations and violence is not called for.
He stated,”Having divergent ideas and opinions is part of what we celebrate as our democracy but the constitution did not envisage that different opinions would result in chaos, loss of property, or loss of lives.”
The president further advised that citizens can be able to enjoy their rights without infringing other people’s rights. This he said in regards to people who have been killed in the protests, property of unknown value destroyed and businesses destructed.
He stated,”We must all of us be able to celebrate all the rights provided in the constitution in a manner that respects the rights of others and also in a manner that does not destroy property all in a manner that does not make our children go to school. We are mature enough to be able to do that.”
This comes after opposition leader, Raila Odinga accused president Ruto and his deputy for championing for police brutality.
He stated,”No justification exists for the brutality that we and the residents of Pipeline have endured this afternoon,” Raila said in a tweet. “Ruto and Gachagua, your days are numbered and count them well.”
