How can you condemn a 55 yr old to 67 year in prison.
Azimio la umoja leader, Raila Odinga has questioned on why the court made such an unfair decision on Waluke.
He questioned,”How can you condemn a 55-year-old to 67 years imprisonment? That is akin to jailing Raila for 50 years, is that fair? We want Waluke to be granted bond immediately!”
ODM leader argued that, Waluke being sentenced to 67 years is a politically motivated move.
He added that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji should have dropped the charges against the member of parliament.
He stated,”Waluke was being discriminated against because of his political affiliations and that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji dropped the charges against the MP.”
Azimio la Umoja leader further stated that the offences committed by Waluke, were not big enough to warrant the sentence.
Raila stated,” He was charged for billing and receiving money for services he did not deliver and should have been asked to refund it instead. That case should be done away with in totality.”
On the other hand, Director of public prosecutions, Haji defended his decision to review some of the cases he filed against a section of Kenya Kwanza allies. In an interview on October 30, he revealed that he noticed some inconsistencies in the evidence availed.
On October 6, High Court Judge Esther Maina on dismissed Waluke’s appeal contesting a ruling by the Anti-Corruption Court which sentenced him to 67 years in prison or pay an alternative fine of Ksh1 billion.
