How petrol stations have invented new trick to con motorists at the pump.
Apparently, petrol stations have a scheme where they dispense 800 ml of fuel instead of one litre at the normal price.
According to Meru County Trade Director Kagwiria Murega, how petrol stations have devised this new way is by tampering with the pumps without interfering with calibration seals installed by county inspectors.
When there’s an inspection, these petrol station attendants will wait for officials to leave then tamper with the pumps using their technicians despite national government’s efforts to add the number of seals in fuel pumps.
Murega stated,”The tampering of the pumps is rampant. Of the seven we inspected, only one was okay.”
The officials realised that that for every 20 litres sold, two litres were retained by the rogue petrol stations, which is suspected to be a motivation of making daily profits
Motorists have been urged to stay on high alert, if they see anything suspicious, then they can channel their complaints by listing the station and its location to the authority.
Through this complaint, EPRA is able to test the petrol in the car and at the station before prescribing penalties.
EPRA statement read,”Whenever encountered with such a problem, kindly call EPRA using the following numbers: 0709336000 or 020 284700 or email through info(at)epra(dot)go(dot)ke.”
“EPRA will be able to dispatch inspectors to test for adulteration for both the fuel at the station and that in your car’s tank,” they added.
