I am asking forgiveness from the people of Kenya- President Ruto.
While doing a media engagement at State house, the head of state asked for forgiveness from the citizens of Kenya.
In reference to the Shakahola incident, President William Ruto cited that the government should have done more to protect its citizens from the likes of Mackenzie.
He highlighted that as the head of state, he does not take them matter lightly. Every one who took part in the killings of hundreds of Kenyans in the Shakshola incident, will be punished according to the law.
He stated,” I am asking for forgiveness from the people of Kenya following the Shakahola incident. It is evident that there was laxity in our Government that unfortunately resulted in the death of many Kenyans. I am not taking it lightly, and I am taking responsibility as the President. This should not have happened, yet we have all our agencies in place in the entire ecosystem. I promise that we will get to the bottom of this matter. Criminals and crooks should not take advantage of religion to cause harm to Kenyans.”
This comes after the Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kithure Kindiki officially announced the second phase of exhumation and rescue of Citizens still trapped at the forest.
He stated,”The second phase of exhumation exercise is underway at Shakahola forest. The exhumation process is a legal, medical, and human rights exercise that must be undertaken methodically and carefully to protect the dignity and privacy of families of the deceased persons. The Government will avail all information on the ongoing exercise, and limited access to the exhumation sites is to ensure that there is no violation of fundamental rights.”
