IG Koome bans Azimio la umoja bi- weekly countrywide protests as he urged Kenyans to wake up tomorrow and go on with their businesses.
NPS stated,”The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Japhet Koome on Sunday 26th March banned the planned countrywide protests by the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition.”
He was addressing the media at the National Police Service Headquarters, where he urged Kenyans to go on freely with their lawful businesses tomorrow Monday.
The IG who also called upon Officers to carry on with their work, without fear or intimidation from any person (s), further assured Kenyans that the Country is safe, and that Police remain steadfast in their duty to serve and protect the Nation.
At the press briefing, The Inspector general was accompanied by the Ag. DIG Kenya Police Service, Mr. Abdallah Komesha, Director Personnel APS, Mr. Davis Lomwatu, SAIG, the Deputy Commandant GSU, Mr. Omar Bashane, AIG and Regional Police Commander Nairobi, Mr. Adamson Bungei, CP.
His announcement comes after Opposition leader, Raila Odinga declared that he was not ready to suspend any demonstration until his demands are met.
Among the demands include; High cost of living, Opening of IEBC servers, Resigning of president Ruto among many other demands.
He stated that due to public demand, he was now going to hold the protests twice a week that’s Monday and Thursday.
