Invest in an electoral system that is foolproof- MP Farah advises.
Speaking at an interview in K24, Daadab member of parliament explained that there’s need to invest in our electoral system, to avoid the wrangles that happen post election.
The former deputy speaker opined that everything pertaining elections has been dealt with, except a certainty of free and fair polls.
He added that in order for elections to be considered credible, it does not have to depend on who is in the chair of the independent electoral and boundaries commission.
He stated,”We cured the ills except one, the ability for us to make sure that we can get free, fair and credible election that does not depend on who is in IEBC for you or for the other side.”
Notably, Farah questioned on why the government has not invested in an electoral system that has the trust of the people, that is not dependent on individuals like the rest of the world does.
He stated,”Why don’t we invest in an electoral system that is foolproof? Don’t even depend on individuals, depend on machines and invest in a credible electronic electoral system as is done in the rest of the world.”
He further opined that the approach of appointing people from both sides( Executive and opposition) is not a surety that the elections will be credible.
He stated,”When you keep on saying fix the IEBC, when you have your own, I have my own. Everybody who was there in 2013, a bulk of them were our(Cord Coalition) people there and when the elections were done we claimed again that they were compromised.”
