Kajwang calls for suspension of speaker election.
Homabay senator, Moses Kajwang calls for suspension of speaker election indicating that, nominated senators did not get a chance to apply for the deputy speaker post.
A sentiment he expressed after being sworn in, Kajwang stated that it is not right for an election to be conducted whereas others were not given a chance to apply.
He said,”Let the foundation of this Senate not be a foundation of impunity and of denying our women opportunity to participate.”
Isiolo senator, Fatuma ,backed up senator Kajwang saying this issue needs to be addressed before an election is conducted.
Fatuma said,”There is a lacuna but we did not anticipate such a thing to arise. Clerk, you need to make a decision on this.”
However, Kipchumba Murkomen has dissmissed this sentiments. He stated that Kajwang’ s statement is just a premature allegation.
Murkomen said,”The objection he is raising is premature to the extent that this House is now discussing the election of the speaker. The issues he has raised do not touch on the election of the speaker.”
Boni Khalwale supporting Kajwang stated that this are allegations to disrupt the senate proceedings.
Khalwale said,”I can see the attempt by Senator Kajwang. He is attempting to suspend the sitting of this house. Those are our standing orders. Probably those are standing orders of doing trade in fish and all those things.”

He said,”I, therefore, rule that we proceed with the business of order no. 4 and if there will be an objection to order number 5, then it will be canvassed.”
