Earlier, Kalonzo Musyoka was nominated to battle the race of the speaker of parliament, he however, withdrew from the race.

This made Azimio la Umoja to front Kenneth Marende who has been a speaker in parliament before. Azimio said the Marende will be the best candidate because he has been tried and tested.
Due to this withdrawal, Kenyans were speculating on Wiper leader’s stand on political afiliation. An allegation that Kalonzo Musyoka has came forward to clarify.
In an interview with the standard media, Kalonzo defended his move to drop bid on the National Assembly speaker post; he said it was a decision he made after holding a meeting with leaders from Azimio.
Kalonzo further claimed that the National assembly speaker was characterised by bribery, hence making him withdraw from the race.
Kalonzo said,”The decision was not impromptu. I was well guided by my party and the Azimio top leadership after we realised the process had been marred with bribery. We decided that we needed to keep it clean and in that case, step out of the race.”
Kalonzo also refuted the assumptions of him knowing he will be floored in the elections.
He also made it clear that he has no intention of Joining the president elect, William Ruto’s camp. He further added he has not had any consultation with the incoming president.
Kalonzo said,”I have not had any consultation with Ruto and Kenya Kwanza. Those are frivolous allegations. I am taking a strategic retreat so that I can plan my political future which is still bright.”
Moses Wetangula was elected as the National assembly speaker, this is after he garnered majority of the votes from the member of parliament.
