Kenya is deeply religious- Wetangula faults supreme court ruling on LGBTQ.
National assembly speaker, Moses Wetangula has questioned on why the supreme court did not stand by the moral guidelines of the country.
The supreme court had lifted the ban that was imposed by Kenyan authorities on registering the National lesbians, gays, bisexual, transgender and queer community.
Wetangula stated that Kenya is a religious country and every institution in the country has a duty to uphold the ethics and moral code of the country.
He stated,”Kenya is deeply religious. Each individual and public institution has a duty to uphold, defend and protect public morals.”
“The Supreme Court pronouncement may lead to unintended and unhelpful consequences,” he added.
This comes after the Kenyan attorney general, Justin Muturi stated that he will petition the ruling by supreme court allowing the registration of LGBTQ as Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
He stated that this discussion should be brought to the church for debate. On the other part, the church expressed that they won’t support the ruling.
The CITAM archbishop stated that Kenyans need to rise up and pray for the country, and detest the things that are against the doctrines of the church.
He stated,”We encourage Kenyans of moral integrityto reject, resist and oppose this supremecourt ruling as it will erode our societalnorms and morals. We call upon Christiansand Kenyans of good will to stand out inopposition to this ruling and express their disagreement openly.”
