KUCCUPS explains why some tertiary institution students won’t receive gov’t scholarships.
Speaking to the media, Alice Wahome, Chief executive officer KUCCUPS explains why some tertiary institution students won’t receive gov’t scholarships.
She stated that some TVETS within universities were not cut for the scholarships in the new introduced funding model by the government.
She stated,”But we have some universities that are offering Diploma and Certificate courses, so they have what we call TVET schools within the Universities. So those will not receive the scholarships, but they will be there for students to see and choose.”
Although, KUCCPS CEO highlighted that students joining TVETS registered under the Ministry of Education, including National Polytechnics and Technical Training Institutes (TTIs), would be eligible for government scholarships and loans.
She stated,”But we also have our TVET institutions that are under the Ministry of Education, these are the Technical Training Institutes (TTIs) and the National Polytechnics, they are about 200 of them. So those under the Ministry of Education, the students will be able to access both loans and government scholarships.
“So I needed to make that correction that there are TVETS within the Universities, and we have TVETS under the Ministry of Education. So if you decide to take a TVET course within a university, you will finance yourself,” she added.
This comes after President William Ruto stated that the government had invented a new funding model; Where he noted that funding will be through government scholarships, loans and bursaries.
