Malala defends Gachagua’s request of ksh 1.5B.This comes after ex Treasury Cabinet secretary, Ukur Yatani dragged Gachagua’s name to the scandal.
Speaking to Citizen tv, UDA secretary General, Cleophas Malala, stated that the money can bo accounted for, because it was not meant for Gachagua’s personal use but for the office of the Deputy President.
He cited that upon taking over, It was realized that Gachagua’s office was underfunded because of the not so good relationship between the former president, Uhuru Kenyatta and the now president, William Ruto.
Malala stated,”The reason why Ksh1.5 billion was requested was that Uhuru had taken all budget elements from the Office of the DP and that office had no money.”
“Ksh1.5 billion is too little to run that office because it has so many matters that need to be financed. This money was well appropriated,” he added.
Malala further accused reporters for trying to play theatrics by diverting the attention of Kenyans from the revelations made by the controller of budget.
He stated,”Based on the revelations by the Controller of Budget, AZIMIO leaders are using maandamano to blind Kenyans. They can not be protesting against a problem they caused.
They must account for the billions of shillings stolen to finance their campaigns from public coffers.”
However, this controversial story has raised a lot of questions. A section of lawmakers questioned on where did the government get the ksh 1.5B but when they took over, they claimed that the country was on the verge of an economic shutdown.
Alego Usonga MP posed,”They claimed that they only found Ksh50 million, where did they get this Ksh1.5 billion to buy all these cars?”

“The former head of state was giving instructions through a WhatsApp chat which is the highest level of misappropriation of public funds and we must therefore question where the money was heading to,” he added.
