The Kenya meteorological department reveals exact dates regions will witness rains. According to the weather department, Nairobi and eight other regions in the Central part of Kenya will receive occasional rains this weekend that’s between Friday, March 10, and Monday, March 12.
By End of march, the rains will intensify, as the season of long rains in Nairobi and the regions of Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kiambu, Meru and Embu will start.
The statement read,”The rainfall is expected to increase in intensity and spread to several places towards the end of the third week of March.
“The onset of the seasonal rainfall is expected towards the end of the third week and the beginning of the fourth week of March,” they added.
In the parts of Western, Rift Valley and Nyanza regions , they will receive light to moderate rain over the weekend, thereafter, intensify as of the third week of March to usher in the season long rains.
The meteorological department has advised farmers to act accordingly, they should plant quality seedlings for abundant harvest since the coming season in favourable.
They stated,”Farmers in these areas are advised to liaise with the Ministry of Agriculture in their respective counties for advice on the appropriate seeds to plant as well as good agricultural practices to maximise their yields.”
The rain is expected over the weekend because of the impact of cyclone Freddy winds from Mozambique which are expected to bring forth rainfall.
This comes weeks after the World Meteorological Department (WMO) warned of impending el nino rains in parts Kenya beginning April.
