National assembly MPs expose tricks that teachers have devised to earn promotions. In their probe on exam irregularities during the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), the lawmakers realized that the initiative to cheat on national exams majorly came from the teachers.
Apparently, The tutors had found a hole in the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) promotion criterion and they were maximizing on it.
They stated,”TSC has been promoting teachers based on performance in national examinations. Many teachers are tempted to aid malpractices for their students to pass, and as a result, get their promotions.”
The education committee’s attention was drawn after some schools that were not performing that well recorded the best grades in the country.
It was also found out that this exam irregularities were influenced by deployment of exam supervisors and invigilators.
The school would manipulate their way into the the system to get teachers that help the students or turn a blind eye while they are cheating in their KCSE exams.
This comes after KUPPET received the same report. They complained that KNEC is no longer doing their work of overseeing the examination.
They stated,” It appears that KNEC has not been able to manage examinations effectively in this country and has left their work to the Ministry of Education and Teachers Service Commission (TSC).”
For instance, schools that usually record a mean score of 3.7 and had a sharp increase to 7.5.
