Natembeya offers the government an alternative way of dealing with bandits.
Trans Nzoia county governor, Goerge Natembeya offers the government an alternative way of dealing with bandits.
Speaking today at the interdenominational church service held in Nakuru county, The governor stated that the government needs to work closely with the locals in Banditry rampant areas.
He added that deploying units and units of police will never end banditry in the north.
He stated,” I beseech you to talk to the locals in these regions and you will get to the bottom of the banditry problem.”
” In the issue of security, I worked as Rift valley regional commander, RRC) and I fought the issue a lot. There are things you will never be told, President,” he added.
He also put across that the salaries offered to the police in the north is not enough for them to risk their lives fighting the bandits.
He stated,””The salary an officer in Kapedo gets is the same an officer standing here in Ngata in traffic is getting. There is no incentive whatever.”
Natembeya also revealed that for the police to survive in some of those areas, they need to get into a sitting with the bandits where food and guns are traded.
He stated,”The things that happened in Laikipia conservancy made me resolve to leave my job because you would tell someone these are the coordinates, the bandits are this side then they bomb the opposite side because the owners of the livestock are the same people we sit with on the table to plan strategies on how to finish the bandits.”
This comes after the government resolved to put up road in the northern region in order to do away with the bandits’ hideouts.
