Nothing unlawfully done can yield lawful results- Speaker Amason Kingi.
Former Kilifi governor and the current speaker of the senate, has opined that violence will never yield fruitful results.
In reference to yesterday’s mass action, there was a battlefield between the police and Kenyans where teargas and water canons were used as defence mechanisms.
Amason posed on why the opposition does the unlawful but expects the government to act in a lawful way.
He stated that in terms of election results, the constitutional act 2010 has laid out procedures that are to be followed when one is not satisfied with the results.
He added that anything done outside the constitution, to try and articulate a grievance, is considered as mockery to the rule of law.
He stated,”My concern as a Kenyan:- Our Constitution has very elaborate provisions on how presidential election disputes are to be prosecuted & settled. Anybody calling for resolution of such disputes outside the Constitution is making a mockery of our Constitution & our democratic values.”
Kingi additionally highlighted that the bare minimum expected from leaders, is to respect the constitution and act accordingly otherwise, this will turn the country into chaos and a state of disorder.
He stated,”The basic minimum demanded of us as leaders is to observe the rule of law no matter the temptations/ provocations, lest we plunge this country into chaos and anarchy. Nothing unlawfully done can yield lawful result.”
This comes after Azimio la umoja leader, Raila Odinga led protestors into the streets, where he demanded that Ruto must go or the demos will never stop.
