President Ruto reveals plans to supply affordable countrywide internet connectivity.
Speaking at a meeting with the former Britain prime minister,Tony blair, who is also the executive chairman of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, State House, Nairobi, President Ruto reveals plans to supply affordable countrywide internet connectivity.
He stated that access to affordable internet was a big part of his manifesto and he is working on bringing that to life.
He said,”ICT is a big part of how we intend to deliver our development agenda. We are in talks with telecommunication companies to lay a 100,000-kilometre fibre optic that will reach every corner of Kenya.”
“Technology is an agent of transformation and empowerment. We will use it to deliver government services, promote innovation and create opportunities for all Kenyans, especially those at the bottom of the economic pyramid,” he added.
President Ruto stated that through the internet, majority of Kenya’s problems will be tackled. He added the his government is embracing the digital era inorder to provide government services online.
“We are looking at transacting between 80 and 90 per cent of government services online,” he stated.
“We will be rolling out our digital super highway for the empowerment of every citizen with information and opportunities,” President Ruto stated during his manifesto launch,” he added.
