President Ruto’s representative forced out of KICC during address.
Devolution principal secretary, Tabitha Mbaka, who was President Ruto’s representative forced out of KICC by the members of county assembly.
The members of county assembly, had congregated to discuss the matters affecting their wards including the ward development fund and how it could be used to further development in the country.
They had also aired demands such as getting better recognition, respect, and equity in their work conditions.
The members of county assembly also decried lack of funds and complained of poor remuneration citing the terrible economic conditions compared to their counterparts in the National Assembly.
They demanded that the principal secretary should leave because they expected President William Ruto to show up at the event and address their concerns, instead of sending Tabitha.
The statement read,”The 2,200 honourable Members of County Assemblies will be congregating in Nairobi on May 3, 2023, at the KICC as they deliberate on many issues affecting the counties and their performance of representative, oversight and legislative roles.”
On April, The MCAs had presented a number of demand to president William Ruto including the question of why were they not entitled to pension like the members of the National Assembly and Senate.
They stated,”For instance, the Ksh109,000 quarterly ward imprest is expected to pay office rent and 3 staff members for the MCAs.”
“Which office will you rent at a maximum of Ksh 18,000 monthly in Kitusuru, Parklands, Karen, Kileleshwa and Kilimani and still use the remaining Ksh18,000 to pay 3 employees,” they added.
