Public university staff to go on strike as from Tomorrow.
Looming strike as public university staff to go on a boycott from work, as from tomorrow. According to the the University staff union Secretary General Constantine Wasonga, the staff were yet to cash in their March salaries.
Wasonga urged all the public university staff, to wake up and camp at the finance department and offices of the institutions, until they are paid, otherwise they are not going back to work.
Wasonga stated,”I want to order all members of academic staff that come Monday, if you have not received your salary, don’t work. Go to your various finance offices, and wait there until you are paid.”
The Secretary General further demanded that the government should release all vice chancellors who stepped into the office in 2022, to go on terminal leaves.
Wasonga cited that the longer this vice chancellors stay, slower and lagging behind of Universities in matters development is experienced.
He stated,”These vice chancellors ought to have gone for terminal leave. They have refused to leave and therefore the appointment of new vice chancellors cannot take place effectively.
He posed, “What interest do they have in our public universities? Why can’t they go on leave so that the councils and the public service can advertise for new vice-chancellors?”
On Feb 28th The public service commission however, announces vacancies for VC and DVC in 10 public universities.
PSC stated,”Pursuant to the provisions of Section 35(1)(a)(v) of the Universities Act 2012, PSC invites applications from the suitability qualified persons for the following vacant positions in public universities. All applications should reach the Commission on or before March 20, 2023, by 5 p.m.”
