Statements couched as obscure threats are unwarranted and unwanted- Junet attacks Kindiki on deploying authorities to their rally.
On sunday, during an Inter- denominational church service in Embu university, the Interior cabinet secretary stated that Azimio la Umoja should give them the venue for their rally, so that the government can provide security for them.
Kindi however, highlighted that the government will not use the authorities to advance partisan politics, citing that those holding demos should adhere to the constitution.
He stated,”the government will not engage in partisan policing or use security agencies to advance political causes, and that it will respect the independence of all constitutional institutions in the country.”
“Demonstrations, picketing, and airing of grievances, meetings and assembly must be peaceful. We expect those who are engaging in this activity to respect our Constitution and the law,” he added.
However, Suna East member of parliament, Junet Mohammed has questioned on why the ruling government is placing conditions on security providence when it is a constitutional right.
He further termed the conditions as obsecure threats that are meant to intimidate them from holding their rally.
Junet stated,”We expect the security he deploys to our meetings to be commensurate to the needs of the meetings, and no more.”
“Statements couched as obscure threats, veiled intimidation and, or, arrogance, are unwarranted and unwanted. We expect a language that confirms the regime temporarily in power understands they are ruling a democratic state, not a banana republic,” he added.
Azimio la umoja is expected to hold two rally one on 7th December at Kamukunji, another on 12th december at Jacaranda grounds.
