There’s no taxation without representation.
Azimio la Umoja leader has stated that there’s no need to tax Kenyans if developments are not evident.
Speaking at funeral function of Philomena Barasa, mother to Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, Raila added that he will make sure Mumias people are included in development, regardless of their political affiliation.
He stated,”Jukumu la kuleta ,maendeleo si eti uende upige mgotii chini ndo walete maendeleo. Maendeleo yatakuja wapende wasipende, kama wamekataa kufanya tunaeza ambia nyinyi msitoe ushuru.”
Raila Odinga also drummed up for a public participation before the implementation of the newly proposed NSSF and NHIF deductions.
He stated,”There must be also public participation. You cannot just wake up one day and say you’re going to increase the NSSF and NHIF, there’s no taxation without representation.”
This comes after president, William Ruto stated that every Kenyan with an ID should have a KRA pin.
He also stated an increase on the NHIF and NSSF deductions.
He also spoke commented on the Mumias sugar factory; He said that the national government should surrender 20% of the shareholdings to the county government to facilitate smooth operations at the factory.
He said,”Government should surrender its 20% shareholding in Mumias Sugar Company to the County Government of Kakamega to ease the operations of the company and also enable locals to start growing sugarcane.”
