UDA issues a statement on extending presidential limit.
President William Ruto led party, UDA issues a statement on extending presidential limit on november 8.
UDA stated,”Remarks by Fafi MP Salah Yakub that there are plans to extend term limits for the President are a product of a fertile imagination by the legislator.”
“The Party has not been part of discussions in regard to term limits. The Party is busy implementing the The Plan and will not be part of sideshows,” the statement added.
This after Fafi member of parliament, Yakub During a food drive in Garissa, revealed that the United Democratic Alliance lawmakers, are drafting a bill to extend the presidential limit.
Some leaders such as Kakamega senator, Boni Khalwale, have come out to reprimand Yakub for the reckless remarks.
Khalwale stated,”However, he must be reminded that UDA believes in the doctrine of Basic Structure and Essential Clauses in our Constitution. He is wrong and grossly out of order.”
Dennis Itumbi and Johnson Muthama also stated that president Ruto does not approve of this , and Yakub’s remarks were his own sentiments.
Itumbi said,”This move does not enjoy the signature or the nod of President William Ruto – I oppose!”
“Please take note of this, as the National Party, Chairman I wish to categorically state that Hon. Yakub’s made a personal statement that has nothing to do with UDA. As a Party, we stand for open Democracy and we remain supportive of the two-term presidential limit and no ongoing discussions to scrap it.” UDA chairperson Johnson Muthama added.
