We are not a dictatorial state- Atwoli contradicts Raila.
COTU Secretary General, Francis Atwoli has corrected Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Odinga, who stated that the president is turning to be a dictator.
Atwoli stated,”We are not a dictatorial state, we are nothing near there yet.”
He however, said that the opposition has every right to offer oversight to the ruling government because the constitution mandates so.
Atwoli said,”Those who are saying Ruto is a dictator are leaders at political space, let them talk because that is what they fought for.”
COTU head further stated that the head of state accorded everyone freedom, which included criticism of the government.
He said,”This current government has promoted free speech, the president has not castigated anyone for criticizing him.”
He further warned politicians to be careful with their remarks, they should not disrupt the peace, Kenya is currently enjoying.
Atwoli said,”Let people say what they want to say but we are not a dictatorial state and they should make sure their remarks do not upset the peace we are enjoying now.”
Atwoli’s sentiments comes days After Azimio la umoja principals stated that president Ruto is disregarding the democracy, the country is enjoying.
Raila stated,”The rule of law must prevail and not your jungle laws that you want to institute so as to subjugate Kenyans to a conveyor belt system of elections come 2027.”
Karua stated,“We have seen in recent months’ cases being withdrawn, of fraud and others where the suspects are the people in power… Something is cooking in Kenya, and this is the making of a dictatorship.”
