Desperation in Kiambu as parents are allegedly feeding their children illicit brew to cushion them from hunger.
Hunger pangs has caused desperation in Kiambu as parents have been accused of feeding their children illicit brew.
According to reports, some parents from Gwakimori Makwa village in Gatundu South, have been intoxicating their children to calm them down when there is no food to eat.
The village Elder Kimani said,”It is true that we have had isolated cases where parents give their children, most of whom are not able to attend school, illicit brew hopping it will help to cushion them from noticing their hunger.”
“This is a very disturbing situation, and we need urgent intervention to improve the situation before we lose a generation just because we struggle to put food on the table,” he added.
Kiambu residents have appealed to the government to intervene and give them refuge before the situation worsens.
The saddening scenes from Kiambu County have sparked a huge debate on social media.
Michael Kamau stated,”A human being is a deciding being,,
Kiambu County HUSTLERS are in deep regrets why they decided to take the poison to kill themselves at the end,,
JUST CRY HUSTLERS!!”
Jaloka commented,”Four months ago, Kiambu residents rejected maize flour donation from President Uhuru. The residents told the President to lower the price of Unga instead.A month later, Uhuru lowered unga prices through a subsidy and the residents rejected it again saying it was a political move.”
Ajowi Ocholla reacted,”Instead of keyboard warriors getting concerned Uhuru govt never addressed food security problems in Kenya and Mt Kenya region, they’re busy asking why the residents of the region voted against his choice. Kenya is a rotten state.”
Thuo tweeted,”Mt. Kenya is hungry. My people are queuing to get a 1 kg packet of Unga in Muranga, Kiambu, Embu, & Meru. Not because we stopped being hardworking but Uhuru let his government make farm inputs unaffordable. We just need the right environment to prosper, not handouts.”
