Grief has struck a family in Baringo; Adverse and ravaging drought as a breastfeeding mother dies, leaving behind an infant.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, November 12, Elizabeth Yator, who is the in- law, explained that she had left her to tend to the children, as she went in search of water.
Elizabeth added that the husband had also left the home, to search for food, in a bid to restock the porridge that had ran out.
Elizabeth said,”She had run out of food and could not watch her children starving. So she left the baby under my area and left with other women only for her to be reported dead.”
Reportedly, Monica rendile who had gone with her to the borehole, tried to resuscitate her in vain.
Rendile said,”We tried to give her water through her mouth, but after three jugs, nothing. Her body looked too frail for a mother who had recently given birth, I doubt she even had enough milk for her child.”
Drought that has affected several counties in the country, has claimed a lot of lives. Pastoral counties resulted to selling their animals, in a throwaway prices instead of watching them die.
Earlier, president William Ruto, announced that 2B had been set up to mitigate the drought, this include relief food and planting of trees Kenya wide.
