We will not impose on the traders- Wamatangi promises to find a solution for traders.
Kiambu county governor, Kimani Wamatangi, has promised to return sanity to the market of Kiambu county.
Speaking with traders, he listened to their woes and promised to find an amicable solution. Yesterday, the traders led by peter Waiganjo, fueled a demonstration to the county offices.
Apparently, the traders running their businesses inside the newly built five-storey building market, are complaining of making no profit because, traders operating outside the building are taking all the customers.
Waiganjo stated,”We are grateful that the government has built a market for us. We are around 3,000 traders. There are a few of us who are flouting the law and have decided to sell their products outside the market. For this reason, customers do not enter the market and it has brought loss to us. This should be addressed and everybody ordered to be selling their wares inside the market.”
Mbugua echoed that, everyone should be trading from inside the building, in order to strike a balance in profit making.
Mbugua said,”We demand the county government brings sanity to our market. We cannot have some people selling outside the market while others are waiting for customers inside yet they are selling the same products.”
A trader stated that disorderliness started during the campaigns when everyone wanted to trade to the campaign trails.
Another trader added,”What is the essence of the markets if we are not using and only want to sell our ware outside the market. It is either we do away with markets and all sell our products in any space available within our towns.”
Wamatangi said, a solution will be sought very soon for everyone’s sanity.
He said,”We will not impose on the traders as we must find an amicable solution for everyone and bring sanity to our markets. I understand that there has been an increase of traders who are searching for customers outside the market and we will be giving a solution on Friday.”
