Do to others whatever you wish be done to you- Tabitha’s message to exiting KRA boss.
In her social media account, Nakuru county senator wished the outgoing KRA boss all the best in his future endeavours.
She shared what she termed as her favourite bible verse from the book of mathew, where Jesus taught that it is good to be mindful of the way you treat other people.
She stated,” As you exit the stage to pave way for the new leadership at Kenya Revenue Authority, I wish to share with you my favourite bible verse in the book of Mathew 7:12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.”
” To my friend CG – Githii Mburu I wish you all the best in your future endeavours,” she added.
Her message to the exiting KRA boss Githii Mburu was of interest since the senator had a case with the taxpaying watchdog.
The three year old case that has been pending at Milimani Chief Magistrate’s court since August 23, 2020, accused senator Tabitha Karanja of tax evasion as she was running her company, Keroche breweries.
Between December 7 2021, and January 28, 2022, KRA shut down operations at the Keroche breweries factory several times and issued agency notices to banks.
However, On March 2022, the factory and the Kenya revenue authority signed a temporary deal that would allow the factory to resume business but pay off the Sh957 billion tax liability in two years.
KRA stated,”The payment plan which is contained in an addendum agreement to the two Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Agreements signed between the two parties in 2021 was arrived at and signed on March 14, 2022, after week-long negotiations.”
However, in 2022, the tax watch dog shut the factory six times, where Tabitha pleaded that if they do not resume business, they can’t be able to pay taxes accrued.
She stated,”We reiterate our commitment to pay all the taxes due and owing to KRA and we respectfully urge them to allow us to do the business that would unfailingly generate the money to pay off the owed taxes, the current taxes and the future taxes.”
