Go for prayers but stick to medication- MoH warns HIV patients.
The ministry of health, has raised concerns over the number of HIV patients not adhering to the retroviral therapy.
The ministry told the patients to go for prayers but make sure the Anti retroviral medication, is taken as prescribed by the doctors.
Their concerns come after several churches have been termed notorious for announcing healing miracles to the congregants, among them healing those with HIV.
The council stated,”Unverified claims of faith healing for HIV have previously resulted in unnecessary loss of life. To date we have no proven HIV cure that can be scaled up.”
“We urge members of the faith communities who are our key stakeholders to work closely with believers and other partners to eradicate HIV-related stigma and discrimination that continue to negate the gains made in HIV response,” they added.
The ministry advised that only the ARVs have the ability to suppress the virus in your system and raise the CD4 count that in turn raises your immunity.
The statement read,”The disruption of HIV treatment has dire consequences including damage to body organs that could remain irreversible.”
