Uproar from Azimio allies as Former CJ Willy Mutunga is teargassed at a police station.
Uproar from Azimio allies; The former chief justice, Willy Mutunga had made a visit to the station, accompanied by human rights activist, Boniface Mwangi to demand the unconditional release of Saba Saba protesters arrested on Friday, June 7, 2023.
Boniface Mwangi stated,”We were there to demand the unconditional release of peaceful protesters who are being held illegally at Central Police Station. Also, our Constitution allows the right to protest, anywhere and everywhere. Constitution allows that.”
Azimio allies have come out to detest what happened to Willy Mutunga and other activists.
Kalonzo Musyoka stated,” The Kenya Kwisha regime has hit another unheralded and impossible to fathom low, when their agents teargassed the former Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya @WMutunga inside the Central Police Station, Nairobi this afternoon.
Together with Senior Counsel Dr John Khamimwa, he had accompanied other civil rights activists, to seek the unconditional release of peaceful protesters arrested for exercising their constitutional rights.
This action, indeed Friday’s, 30 years after the return of multipartyism was a blatant attempt to reverse the hard-fought gains first enshrined 13 years ago in our 2010 Constitution.”
Alinur Mohammed stated,”We have reached to a point where the police are beating and teagasing Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga inside Central Police Station. The only crime that Willy Mutunga did was he went to demand the immediate release of poor Kenyans who can’t afford lawyers, but they have been unlawfully detained after they were arrested yesterday during the peaceful saba saba maandamano. The police now think everyone who asks them to do the right thing is a member of Azimio. I ask the Azimio leadership to ensure all our supporters that were unlawfully arrested and are unlawfully being detained by the police in all corners of the country are immediately realised. Our police officers should ensure no one is using them to beat their mothers, fathers and grandparents. They don’t know what tomorrow has in store for them.”
