Govt Issues Directive on Placement for Grade 9 Pupils: Amid growing concerns of the way forward for grade 9 students, the Ministry of Education has firmly assured a smooth transition for pupils from Junior Secondary School (JSS) to Senior School.
The has negated calls by a section of education stakeholders who demanded for relocation of the final grade of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) to secondary institutions.
Subsequently, pioneer class of the CBC will continue their educational journey in their current institutions when they transition to Grade 9 next year.
PS Kipsang stated,” We are prepared for our children to be in Grade 9 next year. We are initiating the construction of 16,000 classrooms; it will be a marathon and Kenyans are not scared of a marathon.”
“The ministry is set to present a sessional paper aimed at reviewing students’ operational costs to ensure the adequate delivery of the CBC. This paper, drawing from the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER), provides a policy framework for sustainable planning in education, training, and research,” he added.
The PS further highlighted that this aligns with the preferences expressed by education stakeholders during consultations conducted by the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms, which was supported by 93% of Kenyans.
