Catholic Bishops got it wrong, The Imams too, now NCCK- Sifuna tells off the clergy trying to mediate Ruto- Raila fight.
Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna, has opined that the clergy is already taking sides in solving the theatrics going on in politics.
Taking it to his twitter account, Sifuna stated that the Clergy called for Azimio to suspend its weekly protests and give dialogue a chance while it made no demands to the government.
He highlighted that the clergy is already falling into a trap that the government has laid out for them.
He stated,”Any serious “mediator” between two parties in a conflict would not start by asking one Party to do or stop doing something without placing a similar demand on the other Party. The Catholic Bishops got it wrong. The Imams too. Now the NCCK have fallen into the same trap.”
This comes after religious leaders on thursday, called on Raila Odinga, the opposition leader to suspend the protests he has lined up and for the head of state, William Ruto to embrace dialogue and solve this out.
The Kenya conference of catholic bishops led by their chairperson Martin Kivuva, highlighted that this situation will worsen into something else and Kenyans will be the punching bags.
Kivuva stated,”There cannot be a good reason to resort to the standoff and defiance of our leaders to the detriment of Kenyans.”
Muslim council also made the same call,”The solution must be found to fix this situation, instead of hurting people during the process.”
NCCK also stated,”The situation cannot hold for long, there is a need for immediate action to rescue the nation from further deterioration.”
Raila however, has reiterated saying, he is not interested in any dialogue, he also urged the clergy to see and tell the truth.
He stated,”Our answer to the clergy is in the gospel, I want to quote John 8:32 – Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”
